Course Description

River Bottom Rangers is an outdoor education program designed to introduce children to practical life skills, wilderness awareness, ranch life, and environmental stewardship through hands-on experiences. Students will learn age-appropriate outdoor skills including navigation, wildlife identification, first aid, shelter building, knot tying, fire safety, and responsible outdoor recreation while building confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

• Demonstrate safe outdoor practices.
• Identify common Arizona wildlife and habitats.
• Learn basic map and compass navigation.
• Practice introductory first aid skills.
• Understand fire safety and responsible campfire practices.
• Learn beginner knot tying and rope skills.
• Build simple shelters using natural and provided materials.
• Develop teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.
• Practice observation and critical thinking in outdoor settings.
• Build confidence through experiential learning.
